People often assume that doing this properly means replacing everything at once — server, streamer, power supplies, cabling, the lot.
It doesn't. And starting that way is usually a mistake, because you learn nothing about what each piece contributed.
The highest-leverage first move
If you're streaming from a computer today and it sounds fine but not special, the single most effective change is adding a dedicated endpoint between your network and your DAC.
Nothing else in your system has to change. Your files stay where they are. Your DAC stays where it is. Your software stays the same.
The ultraRendu Plus connects to your router by Ethernet and to your DAC by USB. It takes the music off the network and hands your DAC a clean signal — without the electrical noise that was riding along from your computer's power supply and processor.
Then stop and listen
Live with it for a few weeks before changing anything else. You'll learn more about your system from one change at a time than from six changes at once.
When you're ready, the usual order is:
- A linear power supply for the endpoint, replacing the switching adapter
- A dedicated server, so your computer leaves the chain entirely
- Optical isolation, if you want the network's electrical noise gone completely
None of those steps requires undoing the previous one. That's deliberate.
