Sonicorbiter v3 Is Out of Beta — and a Price Change on the Card

Two pieces of news about Sonicorbiter v3 for the Sonore Rendu Series. It is out of beta — and the ready-to-use card is now $99, shipped free.

We would rather explain a price change than quietly make one, so here is both halves of it.

v3 is out of beta

Sonore has released version 3.1, and with it Sonicorbiter v3 leaves Early Access and becomes a full stable release.

When we announced v3, we told you plainly that it was still officially in beta. We meant it, and some of you reasonably decided to wait. That caveat is now gone. Months of real players, on real home networks, with real DACs, went into getting here — the kind of testing you cannot do in a lab.

Every card we ship from today forward carries 3.1. If you are already running v3, the update to 3.1 is free and installs straight from Software Manager in a few minutes.

Already on v3? Open Software Manager from sonicorbiter.com, click Install, and let it finish. Your previous version stays in the other slot, so you can always go back. Step-by-step directions »

And the card is now $99

The cost of microSD cards has climbed sharply, and the SanDisk High Endurance 128GB card we use has climbed with it. We held the old $69 price as long as the math allowed.

We could have moved to a cheaper card. We are not going to. High Endurance cards are built for continuous write cycles — they are what goes in dashcams and security cameras — and that is exactly the kind of life a card has inside a Rendu that never gets turned off. Counterfeit and worn-out microSD cards are one of the most common causes of a player that stops booting, and a card that fails in two years is not a bargain. So the card stayed the same and the price moved.

What you get for $99

  • A SanDisk High Endurance 128GB card, written with the correct v3 image for your specific Rendu series player
  • Version 3.1, the full stable release, already on it
  • Tested before it ships, and shipped free
  • Lifetime free technical support. If it does not boot, we make it right

Already ordered at $69? Nothing changes for you. Your card ships as ordered.

The free option has not changed

It never will. The v3 image is a free download and always has been. If you have a card reader and half an hour, you can buy your own High Endurance 128GB card, download the image for your player, and write it yourself. The full directions are on our site, step by step, with nothing held back.

Buying the card from us is a convenience, not a gate. Some people would rather spend the evening listening than writing disk images. Some would rather do it themselves. Both are fine.
